Springing Fashion Forward

Laura Scott with the Cherry Street boutique Rope advises us that lengths will be long and our current cable knits will transition to lighter weight sweaters.

"Some of my favorite trends for spring 2012 include the maxi skirt, high low skirt and open weave sweaters all translated into a 70's chic style. The maxi skirt is fantastic for wearing now during the colder weather with boots, tights, and a chunky sweater but will be perfect with sandals and a great little blouse for spring...Think Jerry Hall."

high low skirt tulsa"The High Low skirt is another huge trend for spring 2012 that can easily work into your wardrobe for the cooler weather," Laura continued, "Designers across the board are featuring this cut known for the above the knee front hem and longer hem in the back of the garment. Once the weather warms up these will be perfect with a great platform heel or oxford but they are fantastic now with a riding boot, tights, and fitted wool blazer. Think Ali MacGraw from Love Story."

As for the open weave sweater, Laura advises on how to wear it both then and now. "In the spring they are perfect paired with a little cami and light silk skirt or cut off shorts but to incorporate this trend now you can layer them over long sleeve knits or layer over a trim button down blouse with skinny jeans."

"... Another sure signal that spring is near is the sighting of flirty dresses.

"I'm loving all the brights. I feel like last year there were definitely more pastels and soft colors," said Laura Scott, owner of Rope Tulsa, 1619 E. 15th St.

Many of the dresses she chose for spring are what she likes to call "slouchy elegance."

"They are really fun, feminine shapes. Some strapless bodices with fuller skirts. A fun play on the classic shape," she said.

And a trend that was introduced last year - the maxi skirt - is back but in a more thoughtful way, she said.

"Different maxi skirts are huge this year, not like they were the last few seasons. More elegant," Scott said. "Printed silk maxis with a slit up the side that you can dress up or dress down with a slouchy sweater. It's a little more risky, but it's worth it."

By KIM BROWN World Scene Writer
4/10/2012

Sisters Arin Robinson and Jessie Zinke took their love for fashion and created their own company, Zinke Intimates, in 2009. The playful lingerie designs quickly took off nationwide. The line was picked up by retailers Anthropologie and Free People and also sold in hundreds of boutiques across the country, including locally at Rope Tulsa, 1619 E. 15th St., and online...

The new swimwear collection was the "natural progression" from their successful mix-and-match lingerie and lounge wear, said Zinke, who designs all the pieces from her home in New York City.
